Boxes 05:03
He said girls don’t mean what they say He said call me anytime but has not picked up in 3 days and I’d like to think I can take a hint so I’ll take your silence for what it is She asks if I’ve done this before I said a few times, she says I could use a couple more That my nervous hands read inexperience That she’ll show me love with an iron fist So sure, I’ve got something to prove but I don’t know if it’s to me or you Validate the boxes that they create around us I swear it’s a cage I’ll never be man enough for you to see me the way that I do and I’ve been chasing the end of some rainbow until I stopped and asked if it was real And I’ll never see myself as more than a boy and you’ll call me your girl And I’ll bite my tongue and swallow it whole You said I should be used to being uncomfortable He said I have no room to complain If I just tried a little harder to look and act that way and in the morning when I put on my face I’m deciding which role I’m gonna play I’ll cut off my arms and legs to fit inside of boxes that were never made for me What is the price to assimilate So I can sit inside a coffin until I rot away I will tear myself apart with these two hands I’m just trying to find my place between opposing ends Between two opposing ends

John's Song 04:25
Well, John says he's gotta go to work said he saw it on TV And he got this pearl of wisdom between the scheduled programming Well, John says he's got an obligation to his country said he's gonna go out and join the military He said, "freedom isn't free" and something about the statue of liberty but I think he saw it on TV Well, John says he's got an obligation to his family said he's gonna go out and he's gonna get married He's gotta pass on his daddy's name because if he didn't, it would be a shame and we know he wants a son, but I hope his daughter's okay. And when it's late at night and white suburbia is tucked in tight John lays awake with a wandering mind He thinks about his existence He thinks about Jesus Christ and all of his time And in the middle of the night, he hears a voice from the back of his mind "If you work for a living, why do you work yourself to death?" Well, John says he's gotta go to work said he saw it on TV and he's got an obligation to his economy He said, "freedom isn't free" but I think he saw it on TV

Wish we knew then what we know now then maybe we wouldn't have burned through all the oil, cut down the trees, poisoned the soil, killed everything and this lifestyle is mass produced a plastic smile shrink-wrapped for you and it was made very far away by young small hands earning cents a day and toxic waste, it runs downstream but you don't care about the things that you cannot see, it's powered by our aching feet the price of convenience will be our defeat Where is your god now? Your holy machine. Big Business never cared about you or me. Extinction is permanent and plastic never leaves. We've dug ourselves in deep. When the topsoil is gone and we've caught all the fish at sea they'll remember that you can't eat your money but hey, it's just business, isn't it and I hope that they are proud of what we've become look at what they've done I could wash the oil clean from my hands but still taste exhaust in my lungs I, too, burn gasoline. I am no better than anyone but life is bought and sold with a copyright stamp on it while they debate the rights to my own uterus Where is your god now? Your holy machine. Big Business never cared about you or me. Extinction is permanent and plastic never leaves. We've dug ourselves in deep.

Stay Sharp 03:59
He bet all his money away tonight Was that bluff worth losing your sense of pride? He's drinking like he wants to die "the usual, whiskey on ice." Come home to the family and the wife Pent up frustrations come out in the night but he's not usually like this no, "he's really a nice guy." And we both know that you'll pay the price if foods not ready when he arrives. Sharpen the knife. And you can't help but think that blade in your hand.. "oh, it feels so nice" and you try your best to shake these violent thoughts from your mind. "This is the last time." And I don't know if what you did was right sometimes it comes down to fight or die but you can't help but think that power in your hands.. "it feels so nice."
